I would recommend you wipe out the game, close Steam, relaunch it, and then download Call of Duty 4 in its entirety. The main thread does not make clear what the resolution for this last error is.
This should allow you to reach the "FileSysCheck" error. The "game unavailable" error seems to be intermittently resolvable by changing the client's language to something else and then back to English. If you're one of the affected gamers, you will receive one of the error messages on launch: "This game is currently unavailable. Based on my own examination of the threads, it would seem that all two primary issues preventing gamers from launching the game. The always awesome Destructoid has spotted a post on Valve's Steam forums detailing catastrophic issues some gamers are experiencing with Call of Duty 4 purchased via Steam.
